Gujarat govt. announces Rs. 625 crore waiver of pending bills in power theft cases

Gandhinagar: As many as 6.22 lakh power connections in rural Gujarat are non-functional for pending non-payment of bills in power theft cases. The State government has today decided to waive off Rs 650 crore pending non-payment in such cases whether it is agriculture, residential or commercial power connection. Minister Saurabh Patel made this announcement today at State Secretariat. He added that even after several amnesty schemes, these poor consumers were not able to make payment of pending power bills, and therefore the State government decided to announce one-time settlement.

– On payment of only Rs. 500, entire pending sum of power bill and its interest to be waived off.

– Permanently withdrawn power connections on non-payment of bill or presently functional power connections that have attracted supplementary bills will be able to get benefit of the scheme.
