Large marriage mandap reduced to ashes in fire in Surat city

Surat:A large mandap erected for marriage on a party plot in the airport road area of the city was today reduced to ashes due to a sudden fire.

A fire official said that the exact reason behind the fire was not yet known but it was understood that it might have been caused by the gas stove of the catering party.

Thermocol and synthetic fabric made mandap was created on palace theme, like a grand filmy set. Wind velocity further spread the fire. 8 fire vehicles were used to control fire. 8-10 gas cylinders were found from mandap. Fire department had not given NOC to this temporary structure. When fire took place, some catering work was going on ahead of wedding scheduled to take place in the afternoon.

No body was injured in the incident.

The marriage of the couple was to take place later today. The hosts were from Jain community. The wedding ceremony was shifted to other place.
