Gandhinagar: Morva Hadaf (panchmahal district) MLA Bhupendrasing Khant is declared disqualified. The decision has been taken by the State Governor. The seat is declared vacant and subsequent process has been completed by State assembly office.
These details were shared by State assembly Speaker Rajendra Trivedi.
‘Khant’s Schedule Tribe (ST) certificate was found invalid. The case had gone to courts. Governor had received a petition in this regard. Yesterday, Governor sent his verdict which was received by my office today. He is therefore declared disqualified today and the seat is declared vacant,’ Trivedi told media persons.
He added that the seat Khant contested was reserved for Schedule Tribe (ST) candidates. His certificate on the basis of which he contested as ST candidate has been found invalid and therefore he is declared disqualified after discussion with State Governor.
Trivedi said, Governor consulted the Election Commission of India (ECI) and also heard both parties.
Khant has meanwhile reacting to this development told media persons that he would approach the Supreme Court.
