Driving license will need to be renewed within one year of expiry instead of five years
September 06, 2019
Gandhinagar: Driving license will need to be renewed within one year after outgoing license is expired as per a new rule introduced by the Centre. Earlier, one could renew expired driving license within five years post expiry date. Now onward, if someone fails to renew expired driving license within one year post expiry, he/she will need to undergo the procedure of fresh new driving license and will need to appear in computer test and practical test of driving. Due to upgrade in software at RTOs, renewal of expired driving licenses beyond one year period has been stopped.
Worth noting that in the case of heavy vehicle license, permitted period of renewal has been increased from three years earlier to five years now.
