Gujarat Congress alleges Rs 30,000 cr scam in crop insurance, Ruling BJP, Minister refute it

Ahmedabad/Gandhingar: Main Opposition Congress today alleged that a scam to the tune of Rs 30,000 crores has been done in the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna (Crop Insurance Scheme) in Gujarat.

However Agriculture minister R C Faldu and ruling BJP state president Jeetu Vaghani rejected the allegation terming it as ‘misleading’.

Addressing a press conference in the party’s state head office in Ahmedabad, party president Amit Chavda, head of the Gujarat Kisan Congress Pal Ambaliya and Party MLA Ritwik Makwana and Ratan Dodiya alleged that a major scam has been committed by the insurance companies in connivance with the state government in the state.

Amabaliya while giving example of two villages of Mendarana taluka of Junagadh district through the crop insurance scheme formula claimed that the farmers were getting more than 90 percent less money than what they should get. He said that the farmers were getting around 61 thousand less amount per hectare.

Chavda alleged that the state government was hiding the information about it. The farmers suffering from various crises including the non-seasonal rain were not being paid the insurance money. He said that the scam was of a larger scale than that of Rafale aircraft scam.

Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister R C Faldu said that Congress was making false and misleading accusation.

‘The allegations are baseless.I throw a challenge to the party to prove the allegations,’ he told newsmen in Gandhinagar.

BJP state president Jeetu Vaghani said that Congress was making baseless and misleading allegations. ‘The party has lost grounds in the rural areas also and is desperate. There was no scam in the crops insurance scheme. Rather it was during the Congress rule at center that the farmers were subjected to scams,’ he said.
