Ban on Chinese tukkal and Chinese manza/plastic threads during Uttarayan with immediate effect
January 02, 2020
Gandhinagar (Press release): Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today ordered ban on the sale, purchase, storage and use of Chinese tukkal(flying lanterns) and Chinese manza/plastic thread, used in kite flying during the Uttarayan festival, with immediate effect with strict implementation of the order under section 144 of IPC.
The decision has been taken as compassion towards human beings as well as birds and animals – prone to injury and even fatal injury.
It had been noted that some accomplished kiters prefer the shaper Chinese materials, which caused serious injury and even fatal injury. They are not recommended for environmental point of view also. They take longer time to do decompose. Such materials entering gutters lines block drainage system. The kite threads entangled in overhead electricity lines can cause fault in power supply. Stray cattle also tend to devour such threads mixed with leftover foods.
Similarly, tukkal flown during night can cause fire when they descend on inflammable goods.
