Ahmedabad:Workmen Employees (Class III and IV) working at Ahmedabad office of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will observe a day’s strike tomorrow at the joint call of AIRBEA (All India Reserve Bank Employees Association) and AIRBWF (All India Reserve Bank Workers Federation).
Chief Secretary of the Ahmedabad chapter of the Reserve bank Workers Union (RBWU) N B Vaghela and local Secretary of the Reserve Bank Employees Association (RBEA) Ajay Sonilagar today said that the strike was to show solidarity support to national platform of Central Trade Unions and independent national federations comprising the working people of the country in all sections of economy and production, including Banking and Insurance sectors who have called for a day’s nationwide strike on pressing issues of working people in particular and people in general.
‘RBI is shrinking fast. Its staff strength has come down to one-third of its earlier strength; few recruitment now and then are far less than depletion due to retirement. Jobs are making flight, departments are squeezed and eliminated, and important jobs are being outsourced. RBI has been brought down to the leanest Central Bank of the world. Important jobs cannot be attended to for dearth of staff. Consequently, RBI is receiving flak for its failure. Its autonomy and independence is at stake,’ they said.
‘Despite Parliamentary Committee’s unanimous recommendation, Govemment representative has, very recently, turned down one last option for pension to few CPF retainers in RBI. Extension of APF/CPF facility to NPS recipients is still pending. We also support the demand of Central Trade Unions to scrap National Pension Scheme (NPS). We strongly demand of the government that RBI autonomy and independence must be upheld. We shall also resist government attacks on Workers Trade Union Rights,’ they added.
