Chiripals, others booked for deaths of 7 laborers in Nandan Denim fire

Ahmedabad: Chiripal group’s managing director Jyoti Prasad Chiripal, Dipak Chiripal, general manager of Nandan Denim BC Patel, whole time director PK Sharma and chief fire officer Ravikant Sinha are booked under sections 304 and 114 of IPC related to culpable homicide, over deaths of 7 laborers in the incident of fire last evening.
Narol police has arrested PK Sharma, Ravikant Sinha and BC Patel in this case so far, while other two accused are still at large.
Police has noted that fire safety equipment were not working properly at Nandan Denim factory. The shade where fire broke out wasn’t having ventilator for air circulation. There was only one ladder in the shade for escape. Fire staff was not informed by the company that there were people trapped inside the shade that was caught in fire.
Charred dead bodies of laborers will be identified through DNA tests. Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team will be part of the investigation.
Those dead in this incident of fire are Ronak Raval, Kunjan Tiwari, Sumitra Patel, Bhala Makwana, Ganesh Patel, Govind Kumar and Arvind Desai.
Relatives of those dead have refused to accept dead bodies and demanded arrest of all accused and sealing of unit. State Labor department has ordered closure of factory.
Nandan Denim has witnessed incidents of fire in the past too. The relatives of victims are questioning the reasons behind such repeated incidents.
