Lion census 2020 to cover Surendranagar and Rajkot districts too

Junagadh: Counting of Lions in Gujarat will be carried out in the month of May this year. For the first time, Rajkot and Surendranagar districts of Saurashtra region will be part of this process as a few lions have recently migrated to these districts. Census of lions is carried out once in every five years. The last counting was done in year 2015. As many as around 2,000 field workers and volunteers will join the counting process. Lions are in recent past spotted in Derdi, Vinchhiya, Gondal, Tramba, Kotda and Jasdan areas of Rajkot district and Chotila, Reshamiya and surrounding areas in Surendranagar district. In year 2015 counting, 523 lions were declared present in Gujarat.
