Tabligh Jamat Markaz in Nizamuddin: Gujarat DGP confirms one related death in Gujarat, 71 quarantined

Gandhinagar: Shivanand Jha, Director General of Gujarat Police, today in his briefing told media persons that 71 of 72 from Gujarat who participated in Markaz gathering of Tablighi Jamat in Nizamuddin, Delhi have been identified and quarantined. None of them has shown Covid19 symptoms so far. Of them 34 were from Ahmedabad, 20 were from Bhavnagar (of them 1 died of Covid19), 12 were from Mahesana, 4 from Botad and 2 were from Navsari.

Jha said a broad list was received on the basis of technical surveillance, but it was the list of the persons present in Nizamuddin area at the time of Markaz. So everyone in that list might not be participant of Markaz gathering.

Surat Police Commissioner Brahmbhatt while speaking to media persons said, ‘a list was received, but there was no confirmation that all those in the list had participated in Markaz. We formed teams and checked. Only one in the list had participated in Markaz. Rest of the people in the list were in that area but not in Markaz. However for precautionary purpose, they too have been put under quarantine. There’s no need to panic that a large number of people from Surat city had participated in Markaz. We are still investigating, whether others too had participated in Markaz from Surat.’

Meanwhile police team in Gomtipur area of Eastern Ahmedabad was attacked with stones when it was reportedly in search of two persons who were found to be in Nizamuddin area of Delhi during Tabligh Jamat markaz. However Police said that stone pelting at Kasaai ni chawl of Gomptipur area in Ahmedabad was over detention of persons for breach of section 144. One cop was injured. Stone pelters were identified and 02 were detained. Situation was in control and people were cooperating as they realized their mistake.

State Health department in its statement today morning said that the Government of India had sent a list of 1500 persons who were present in Nizamuddin area of Delhi during particular time period in connection with positive cases found among persons gathered there.
