73 doctors test +ve for Covid-19 in 10 days, city doctor offers free diagnosis using CT scan

Ahmedabad: Even as Covid-19 cases continue to rise sharply in Ahmedabad and other places in the country, a city-based doctor is offering free diagnosis for Covid-19 for doctors using advanced CT scanners.

Dr. Amit Gupta, Radiologist Usmanpura Imaging Centre, is offering free High-Resolution Computed Tomography (HRCT) Thorax screening or CT scan for doctors.

“I recently came across a list of doctors who had tested positive for Covid-19. Half of the doctors in the list are known to me. Since doctors are on the frontlines in the fight against Coronavirus, I decided to offer free screening to them as a small gesture to express gratitude towards them. In the last week, more than 125 doctors have already availed of free CT scanning,” said Dr. Gupta.

He also said that HRCT Thorax screening or CT scan has 97% sensitivity, as compared with 67% sensitivity of RT-PCR tests.

“Some of these doctors underwent the CT scan specifically for Covid-19, and the rest for other reasons. The chances of wrong positive or wrong negative diagnoses are negligible in CT scan, and we were able to accurately diagnose those who were positive for Covid-19. In all, 73 of them tested positive for Covid-19. Some of them tested positive right away upon undergoing the RT-PCR test to confirm the diagnosis, while some tested positive a few days later, but the diagnosis through the CT scan was accurate,” said Dr. Gupta.

Dr. Gupta added that not only does the CT scan have a higher accuracy, it also detects the Coranavirus early.

“This is why some of the patients who were diagnosed to be Covid-19 positive, tested positive a week later, but they invariably did,” he said.
