Polling for four Rajya Sabha seats in Gujarat
June 19, 2020
Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today at around 1.30 pm said, all MLAs of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have cast their votes and party is sure about win of its all three candidates.
Rupani said party MLAs were united. He said, ‘we didn’t need to camp our MLAs in hotel and resort. They were at their homes last night. Congress even tried to contact our MLAs, but we had not camped our MLAs as we put trust in them. They are in politics for ideology and to serve the people.’
Rupani earlier in the morning when came to cast his vote in the State assembly complex, had told media persons, ‘all 3 BJP candidates will win. If Congress was in capacity to win, why leader of opposition and Congress leader Paresh Dhanani would go to Supreme Court for stay on election? Their desperate attempts have failed. BJP MLAs are united. I believe, after counting of votes, Congress’s internal groupism will be out in open.’
When asked whether Bharatiya Tribal Party (BTP) MLAs Chotubhai Vasava and Mahesh Vasava will come to cast vote, Rupani said sure they will. He said, ‘BJP government has worked for tribals. Even one of our candidates is a woman from tribal community. Our govt has implemented PESA act and done billions of Rupees of works under VanBandhu Yojana in tribal areas.’
It’s worth noting that Chhotu Vasava whose party has two votes, didn’t go out for voting in the morning and also in early afternoon. Both BJP and Congress leaders went to his residence in Gandhinagar for talk but he reportedly remained non-committal.
In reply to a question that why BJP MLA Kesrisinh needed assistant for voting, Rupani said Kesrisinh had to be operated yesterday and therefore he needed assistant for voting.
For four-seat Rajya Sabha election, BJP has fielded three candidates while Congress has fielded two candidates. Victory of third MLA for BJP would be above its strength as per year 2017 assembly results. Loss of one seat for Congress would be below its strength as per year 2017 assembly results.
