July 21, 2020
Ahmedabad: Gujarat High Court has today through a notification, recall the status of Senior Advocate of lawyer Yatin Oza.
Oza with 38-year long practice will no more have the status of ‘Senior Advocate’ which was given to him in October 1999.
Notification in this regard issued today by the High Court reads: In exercise of powers conferred under Rule 26 of the High Court of Gujarat – Designation of Senior Advocates, Rules, 2018, the Full Court in its Meeting dated 18 July 2020 has unanimously resolved that the decision of the Full Court dated 25 October 1999 to designate Mr. Yatin Narendrabhai Oza, Advocate as Senior Advocate is reviewed and recalled.
Along with initiating suo motu contempt plea against the Gujarat High Court Advocates’ Association (GHAA) president Yatin Oza over his “demeaning utterances”, the bench of Justices SG Gokani and NV Anjaria had last month also suggested to the Chief Justice to divest him of the stature of senior counsel. The court had also restrained him from making any scandalous remarks during the pendency of the proceedings.
Oza had made some remarks during a press conference last month. He had alleged that matters of only select lawyers were being taken up for hearing in the HC for days at stretch, while making scathing remarks against the highest court of the state.
