Some candidates decided already, is a limitation, there’s no scope to change them: Patil on 8-seat by-poll
August 21, 2020
Rajkot: Gujarat BJP chief CR Patil today in a media interaction here on the third day of his Saurashtra visit said, some candidates for upcoming 8-seat assembly by-poll have already been decided as they were given promise and that’s a limitation. He added that there’s no scope to change the candidates and party doesn’t want to do it, but with whoever are the candidates, the party has started attempt to win all 8 assembly seats. Patil said his upcoming tour will cover these poll-bound assembly segments.
‘Our attempt is to win all 8 seats, and we will surely win. There are some limitations that some candidates are fixed as they were promised, and therefore there’s no scope of changing them and we don’t want to do it, but whoever are the candidates, we have started efforts to win all 8 seats. My upcoming tour will cover these areas,’ Patil said.
It’s worth noting that while CR Patil has become State party chief a month ago, the earlier setup of state party organization had inducted 8 Congress MLAs to its fold in order to win one more Rajya Sabha seat. These Congress MLAs resigned from their assembly seats and some of them were promised party ticket after they joined BJP. Going by Patil’s remark today, it appears that he thinks, repeat of some candidates may dim party’s chance to win those particular seats. It’s worth noting that Congress had won all these 8 seats in general elections of Gujarat assembly in 2017. Patil has time and again opined that BJP should be strong enough to win on its own strength and should stop now induction of Congress leaders. In his Junagadh address to party workers he went on to say that those Congress men who joined BJP till now should consider themselves lucky enough because others in Congress may not get opportunity to join BJP in future.
Patil said the party has targeted victory on all 182 assembly seats in upcoming general elections of Gujarat assembly (in year 2022). He said party won all 26 Lok Sabha seats in two subsequent general elections of Lok Sabha and there are two years left for assembly elections. A roadmap has been readied to achieve that target. There’s no state as of now where party won all assembly seats.
On his announcement that State ministers would seat in State party headquarters ‘Kamalan’ in Gandhinagar every Monday and Tuesday to hear party workers, CR Patil said, Ministers of State will hear party workers and forward their complains to cabinet ministers who would later give written reply to applicant party worker. If written reply is not found proper, the party would press for satisfactory reply. DeshGujarat
