Gujarat govt to move amendment in Indian Registration Act 1908 in upcoming assembly session

Gandhinagar: The Government of Gujarat today said those misusing power of attorney and in practice of land grabbing through fake documents will face strict action as a bill proposing amendment in existing Bharatiya Nondhani Dhara Dastavej Registration Act 1908 ( Indian Registration Act, 1908 ) is going to pass in upcoming State Assembly session to become a law. The government in its communication said, the new bill proposes to make dastavej registration process transparent, simplified and accurate. Land sharks will no more be able to grab land through cheating. A common citizen will be able to present the documents without help of lawyer or dastavej expert using online mode. Unauthorized persons will not be able to do registration of dastavej. Pressure techniques and cheating through electronic mode will no more be possible. The new procedure will save time and money. For dastavej registration, an applicant will need to produce the evidences to prove, he/she is the owner of property. Those who submit wrong details, those who misuse power of attorney and those who use pressure or cheating practice may face 7-year imprisonment and fine equal to market value of property. Real owner of property will be identified easily. Suitable official’s prior approval will be required for authorized person before selling government, public institution, educational institution, religious institution owner property. DeshGujarat
