Covid situation has improved in last three days: Gujarat government in High Court
December 01, 2020
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat government today told the High Court that there has been improvement in covid situation in the State in last three days.
The High Court bench headed by Chief Justice Vikram Nath was hearing a matter on whether to order compulsory community service at covid centres to those who are found now wearing masks.
Advocate General Kamal Trivedi told the High Court: In last three days there has been marginal decline in oxygen supplied to hospitalized patients, bed occupancy, calls received by 104 service, injections used for Covid patients. Hopefully by next Monday, the situation will greatly improve. We have started strict implementation of rules. Police persons are deployed at every four roads for implementation.’
Trivedi told the court that tracking the implementation of community service ordered to one who breach mask wearing rule would be a mammoth task for government machinery which is already occupied in other works.
He said: anxiety of government is not over implementation but over post implementation. Suppose at four roads, four people are found not wearing masks, now to ask them to go for community service for ten days, but to see that each one has gone for community service and track them, the government people are wondering how to maintain such implementation, because we need to identify places where these people are sent to community services, we need to have addresses of each person not wearing masks, there has to be some kind of machinery to track those people who have gone to community service. Most of the staff is occupied, and to add additional staff to see whether decision is implemented or not is a mammoth job. In 108 and 104 calls since last three days, there’s decline, supply of oxygen is also reduced in last three days. The situation should improve by next Monday and the court is urged to hear this matter on the next Monday.
To this argument, the Court observed that crucial time is now. If people are more responsible at this time, it would help. Reduced oxygen supply could be for many other reasons but this is the crucial time. Control at this time will give results in two or three weeks, you need to work out on modalities. By merely giving chalan, purpose is not served. The whole idea that a defaulter should go and serve at covid centre is to create a deterrence. Hospital situation can be better compared to last week or so, but it is like a man had temperature of 104 and it has come down to 102.
The bench conveyed that it will pass appropriate order in day or two. DeshGujarat
