Dy CM indicates, there will be no blanket ban on Kite flying this Uttarayan, but restrictions will be in place

Gandhinagar: In a reply to query made by media persons over possible guideline for upcoming Kite Flying Festival on 14-15 January, Nitin Patel, Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat today said that a decision on this is yet to be made in the meeting of core committee chaired by the Chief Minister. He however indicated that there would be no blanket ban this year on kite flying, but restrictions will be made. He said the government may possibly allow the people to fly kites from their own place, but gathering will not be allowed.

According to sources, the government in Ahmedabad may restrict the movement on bridges on 14-15 January, so that the large number of people from Western parts of the city don’t move to Eastern parts of the city and gather there to fly kites. However any final decision on the mode of celebration of Uttarayan will be made only on the basis of the situation of Covid19 spread in that particular period or around. Also, the Gujarat High Court has in its hearing recently indicated that it wants, some sort of blanket ban on Uttarayan gatherings. In case of any subsequent directive or order in this regard in days to come, the State government might have choice to follow and implement it or go to the Supreme Court eventually.
