First victory in Gujarat local elections 2021: BJP candidate from Naranpura elected unopposed
February 09, 2021
Gandhinagar: Here’s the first victory of local elections 2021 in Gujarat. A BJP candidate Brinda Surti has been declared victorious unopposed in Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) civic election, from city’s Naranpura ward. As one of four seats in this ward is reserved for the Other Backward Class (OBC) candidate, and there was only one OBC candidate left in fray, she was declared victorious.
How this happened? Well, Brindaben’s rival candidate from Congress party, Chandrikaben Rawal withdrew her nomination today on the last date for withdrawal of nominations. A day ago, nomination form of Brindaben’s other rival candidate, this one from Aam Admi Party (AAP) was declared cancelled in this same ward. With this only Brindaben Surti was in fray in OBC category and therefore she was declared victorious unopposed.
Out of four seats in this ward, Naranpura will now witness polling for only three seats later this month.
