AMC run SVP hospital starts Geriatric Department for senior citizens

Ahmedabad: SVP(Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel) Hospital in the city has started Geriatric Department with the aim of providing all diagnostic facilities to the elderly patients at one location from March 3, 2021, said a note released by AMC adding that SVP Hospital has become Gujarat’s first hospital to open a geriatric department dedicated for the people above 60 years of age with an aim to provide medical treatments in the field of General Medicine, General Surgery, Cardiology, Neurology, Orthopedic, Gynecology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Psychiatry and Physiotherapy under one roof.

Dr. Om P. Machra, Deputy Commissioner (Health & Hospitals), AMC mentioned in a tweet that SVP becomes the first hospital in India to provide geriatric care based upon principles of Comprehensive Geriatric assessment.

Diagnostic facilities including X-Ray, Sonography, ECG and Lab tests will be conducted at one place so that the elderly people do not have to run from one place to the other. Indoor admission facility is also available at the department besides OPD. Each patient will be assisted by a patient care assistant after doing registration for a smooth visit. The ultramodern Physiotherapy Centre includes facilities like Functional Activity Station, Hand Functional Station, Treadmill, Ergo Cycle, Electric Stimulator etc.

Each case will be evaluated by a Comprehensive Assessment Committee comprising Dietician, Clinical Pharmacist and Physiotherapist to ensure minimum medication, proper diet and exercise for the patient. Facilities including refreshments, water, entertainment, exercise and Yoga are also available for the patients.

The OPD package costs Rs. 1500 /- which includes registration, consulting, physiotherapy, Echo, ECG, X-ray, Sonography and Lab tests. The OPD timings are 9 AM to 1 PM for Monday to Friday and 9 AM to 11 AM for Saturday. Non-Surgical and Surgical Pre-operative Indoor Packages are also available at day wise charges. Complete body health check-up package for the elderly is also available at the price of Rs. 2800.
