Covid19 vaccination for 45 plus age group suspended for three days in Gujarat

Gandhinagar: Covid19 vaccination for 45 plus age group persons will be suspended for three days starting from May 14 in Gujarat, said principal secretary for Health, Government of Gujarat, Dr. Jayanti Ravi today adding that vaccination for 45 plus age group will resume from Monday, May 17 as per the directives of the central government.

She further said, those in 18-44 age group who have already received appointment and SMS will be vaccinated during these three days (May 14-15-16) in Gujarat. The reason for suspension of vaccination for 45 plus age group for three days is the central government’s new guideline which makes provision that a gap between first and second dose of Covishield vaccine should be 12 to 16 weeks. To execute this guideline, vaccination rescheduling needs to be done.

The Union health ministry on Thursday increased the time gap between the two doses of Covishield to 12-16 weeks from the earlier 6-8 weeks based on the recommendation of an expert panel. The government, however, clarified the decision has been taken based on real-life evidence, especially from the UK.

“Gap between 2 doses of #CovishieldVaccine has been increased to 12-16 weeks from 6-8 weeks currently. Decision has been taken based on recommendations given by Covid working group after analysing emerging evidence,” Union health minister Harsh Vardhan tweeted.
