Vadodara: The district administration of Vadodara is mulling actions to seal the hazardous reservoir Hathiya Dhara on Mahisagar river in Lanchanpura village of Savli taluka to prevent any further death by drowning here. Recently two students from Vaodara became fresh victims of drowning during a picnic here.
More than 4 people have been dead after drowning in Hathiya dhara within a month and more than 150 people have died due to the same till now in recent memory. Province officer, Mamlatdar and officials of R&B are planning immediate actions after request from local MLA and public. The plan is to either fill it up the risky deep water-filled portion with cement concrete or cordon off the entire reservoir with railing of steel.
The Administration will release a public notification to stop the people from coming here. Police are also advised to take strict actions against youngsters coming to this area. MLA had appealed to the collector of the district to release a notification of entry restriction in this area in a letter and also mentioned about his preparedness of providing a grant of Rs 2 crores to seal the Hathiya Dhara.
It is to be noted that the district collector releases a notification barring entry to this area on the festival of Holi every year. A warning board prohibiting entry to this area is also installed here by Savli police. DeshGujarat
