Now two options in Mathematics for class-10 students of Gujarat Board

This decision will be implemented from the academic year 2021-22. The textbook of the Mathematics will remain same for every student. This decision is taken to give an opportunity of further studies to those students who are not willing to go with the science-stream after standard 10th but are unable to study further due to failing in mathematics subject.

The model of the question papers of mathematics standard and mathematics basics will differ in terms of chapter wise, type of questions wise and objectives wise weightage of marks. Principals and teachers of schools will be required to give complete information regarding it to the students and parents. Written consent of students and parents will be required regarding selected alternative.

The students willing to go with science steam after passing mathematics-basics will be required to qualify the exam with mathematics standard during repeater exams held in July.

Most students don’t succeed in class-10 board exams due to failure to pass one single subject which is mathematics. On an average over 50 per cent students fail in mathematics. The alternative option, namely mathematics-basics will help to reduce the number of unsuccessful candidates. The decrease in the number of failed students will also reduce the drop-out rate in standard 10th-11th and increase the overall results of the schools.
