Gujarat to rank 156 municipalities with stars: Chief Minister Rupani

Gandhinagar(Information): Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has asked the Regional Commissioners of Municipalities (RCM) to make the state’s municipalities more progressive with stronger transparent functioning.

He said there is need to crate atmosphere for healthy competition among the state’s 156 municipalities and give them star ranking on the basis of providing best civic amenities to people’s welfare and development projects, as in light, water, roads, STP, underground gutter, tap water in every home. This will encourage the municipalities to work harder for people’s welfare.

The Chief Minister was speaking at the Urban Development Department’s Review Meeting of six RCMs here. It was attended by Gujarat Municipal Finance Board Chairman Dhansukh Bhanderi, GUDC Director Hardik Shah, Additional Chief Secretary for Urban Development Mukesh Puri, Urban Housing Secretary Lochan Shahera, Commissioner of Municipalities Administration Rajkumar Beniwal, Chief Minister’s OSD Kamal Shah, and others.

Rupani said that Gujarat has been established as a developed and progressive state, and hence our municipalities should be projected as examples before the nation for taking up development works with transparency and best administration, creating an impression to let the people feel the change, for which the RCM develop municipalities in their respective regions. It is around time they fix target of people’s welfare works and complete them on schedule.

He suggested the details of the day’s review meeting be discussed at the RCM’s meeting with respective municipalities and review the progress with Chief Officers and office-bearers every fortnight, and meet every month at state-level under the aegis of Urban Development Department with RCMs.
