Surat: Surat APMC (Agriculture Produce Market Committee) Chairman Ramanbhai Jani on Monday rejected the allegation made by Surat Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councilor Dharmendra Vavaliya regarding the rates of commission agents and labour charges levied by Surat APMC.
He informed the press that five per cent commission rate levied by the commission agents in Surat APMC is lowest in India. He added that in the Delhi APMC where Aam Admi Party is in power, the commission rate is 7 % and labour charge is Rs 10 per piece. In Delhi’s Okhla market, 6 % commission and Rs 10 labour charge and in Azadpur market, 7 % commission and Rs 10 labour charge is levied which is more than Surat APMC. Porters, carting agents, general commission agents and merchants working with Surat APMC are paid labour charges as per the regulations prescribed in the license terms. Steps such as suspension of the licence and dismissal from the market yard are taken against those who breach the regulations.
They claimed that the allegations that 8 percent commission is levied by the market-yard are false. APMC vice-chairman Sandip Desai informed that no political interference is tolerated in the administration of market yard. Vegetables worth crores of rupees arrive here to sell from states like Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh due to transparent management of Surat APMC. Thousands of vendors in Surat get employment due to the same. DeshGujarat
