Idar town in North Gujarat to observe one-day strike on August 12

Idar: North Gujarat town Idar will observe one-day strike on August 12 protesting indiscriminately mining activities at Idariya gadh hills.

The town of Idar has seen agitation against mining of iconic Idariya hill in the past also. In year 2017, local ‘Gadh Bachao Samiti’ had agitated against indiscriminately mining of Idar hill aggressively and brought the government under pressure. As a result of that agitation, mining activities had stopped at Idar hill through government order.

However later the lease owners moved State High Court and managed to get a favorable order, following which conditional approval was given by district collector to do mining activities in the areas 200 meters away from historical monument.

Idar has witnessed one-day strike and rally marches in the past too over this issue. For millions of people travelling between Ahmedabad and Ambaji, Idar hills has been a place of attraction on the route. The hill area has been an identity of Idar town. The locals fear that indiscriminately mining by lease holders will eventually destroy Idar hill and cause damage to not just ecology but also some monuments located atop the hills including Idariyo Gadh.
