Idar town observes one-day strike against mining of iconic Idar hill
August 12, 2021
Himmatnagar: North Gujarat town Idar observed one day strike today protesting indiscriminately mining activities at Idariya gadh hill.
Idar marketing-yard, Bar association, Idar Gadh Bachao Samiti and other local leading organizations have extended support to this strike call. The locals including trade associations, town leaders and merchants have joined this one-day strike.
Idar had witnessed strikes and rally marches in the past too over this same issue. Mining activities had stopped at Idar hill through government order after local ‘Idar Gadh Bachao Samiti’ had agitated against indiscriminately mining of Idar hill in the year 2017. The lease owners later moved State High Court and managed to get a favourable order, following which conditional approval was given by district collector to do mining activities in the areas 200 meters away from the historical monument.
Idar hill has been a place of attraction for many visitors and the hill area has been an identity of Idar town. The locals fear that indiscriminately mining by lease holders will destroy Idar hill and cause damage to ecology and some monuments located atop the hills including Idariyo Gadh. DeshGujarat
