Surat: A local court rejected the remand of an accused who was arrested for writing “anti-national remarks” on a wall on the Independence Day on 15th August in Surat.
The accused named Soyebali Taherali Shaikh (Age: 24 years) residing in Shahpor had written statements like ‘15th August Black Day’ and ‘RSS Should Be Banned’ on a wall of the old civil hospital within 100 meters distance from Athwa Lines Police Station with a spray-paint.
Lawyer Dipak Africawala had argued with the Police Inspector alleging that the police were not filing a crime and reached late at the spot. Athva police later filed a crime against the accused the next night under IPC section 153A (1), 505(1)(C) and the crime branch arrested the accused.
The police later presented the accused in the court on Wednesday and appealed for a remand of 5 days which was rejected by the court. The hearing regarding the bail demanded by the accused is scheduled tomorrow.
