Gandhinagar: The Government of Gujarat today in a note said it has taken a decision that the MLAs, Corporators and municipality members can pay 20 % instead of the previously decided 10 % from their grant with their consent out of the 20 % contribution paid by private societies for public-participation works.
As per existing provisions, the expenses of the works such as asphalt or stone paving on internal roads, resurfacing, cement concrete roads, street lights, water pipelines, water harvesting, paving of common plots and groundwater works under Swarnim Jayanti Mukhya Mantri Shaheri Vikas yojana are covered 70 % from the grant of Government, 20 % by private residential society and 10 % by local body of self governance (Municipal Corporations or Municipality).

With a fresh decision announced today, the ceiling of 10 per cent share (within 20 per cent payable share by private society) from the grant of local councilor, MLA, municipality member has been increased to 20 per cent. It means, a councilor, MLA or municipality member can contribute entire 20 per cent share payable by the people and not just 10 per cent. This means, if any society ropes in an elected representative and get consent then, 20 per cent share payable by citizens will actually come from councilor’s grant.
The private societies, housing board residencies, and flat residents in cities and metro-cities across the state are covered in this scheme. DeshGujarat
