SMC cuts water and gutter connection of dilapidated building as people wouldn’t vacate it

Surat: Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has cut the water and gutter connections of a dilapidated building of accommodations in South Zone (Udhna) (A) with police bandobast yesterday as the residents are restraining the redevelopment of the buildings by not shifting from there.
The water and gutter connection were cut with the help of officials of South Zone (Udhna) (A), Beldars, security staff of SMC, SRP allotted to SMC by state government and police inspector of Pandesara Police Station along with 22 others from police staff on 30th September. Total 8 vehicles including 4 JCBs, 1 sewer jetting machine and 3 cars were used for this purpose.
The slum upgradation cell of SMC had decided to redevelop the dilapidated buildings of Sarasvati accommodations considering the structural report by SVNIT, Surat. South Zone (Udhna) (A) had allotted transit accommodations to 347 residents who were eligible and had given consent form; via draw on 19th September. The arrangements of vehicles and Beldars were provided to them for shifting at transit accommodations but the residents refused to accept a token and eligibility form for draw. Thus, the administration was unable to begin redevelopment due to controversies by residents.
