Surat gets center for UPSC prelims exams

Surat: The prelims exam for Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) were conducted for the first time in Surat today across 7 centres in the city. The city was never in the past selected as centre for UPSC prelims.
The demand of providing a centre of UPSC exams in Surat was ongoing for a long time. The candidates from South Gujarat including Surat had to travel to Ahmedabad to appear for the UPSC prelims. With its increased, size, population and economic status, Surat has got its place among the centers for UPSC prelims.
Total 1655 candidates were allotted 7 centres across Surat city which were K.P. Commerce College, P.T. Science College, M.T.B. Arts College, Girls Polytechnic College, Gandhi Engineering College and SVNIT in Piplod. The exam was arranged in two sessions from 9.30 am to 11.30 am and from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm.
Surat has got the centres for UPSC prelims with efforts of Surat collector Ayush Oak and the-then collector Dr Dhaval Patel. The jammers were set-up at each centre to disable the usage of the internet to stop the cheating with mobile-phone or internet. The arrangements for continuously providing the electricity were also made at each centre.
