Gujarat Health Minister shares details of latest status of Covid preparedness in the State

Gandhinagar: State health minister Rushikesh Patel today informed that there are around 43 thousand active cases of covid-19 in the State, with the hospitalization rate of 2.50 percent and the oxygen requirement rate of 0.39.

The E-sanjivani service by the central government and telemedicine service by the state government are serving the patients in home isolation, he said.

GERMIS (Gujarat Epidemic Response Management Information System) portal will easily provide the information including covid hospitals and bed availability to the public, he added. He stated that the Omicron virus transmits quickly as per the virologists, experts, ICMR doctors and foreign medical experts but this variant is not much harmful in effect due to covid-19 vaccination.

The minister said that command and control centers are activated in each district under the guidance of the central government.

Total 9.42 crore doses of covid-19 vaccines are administered in the state so far. Around 98 percent of people above 18 years of age are vaccinated with the first dose, while 94.5 percent eligible people above 18 are vaccinated with the second dose. The doses of covid-19 vaccines have been administered to 57 percent teenagers between 15 to 18 years age group in the recently started vaccination drive.

The positivity rate in covid tests conducted is around 9.5 percent in the State. There are 138 testing labs activated in the state and further more will be set up in 40 sub district hospitals in the upcoming time.

The state government runs 600 sanjivani rath for the covid-19 patients in home isolation. The state government is planning to set-up over 97,000 beds for covid-19 treatment which include 70,000 oxygen beds, 15,000 critical beds and 8,000 ventilator beds. The State government is prepared to start hospitals on war foot basis in cooperation of DRDO.

New 3840 beds will be set up in primary and community health centers in the state under ECPR (Emergency Covid Response Package) Phase-II. Total 9 bed field hospitals are being set up with 100 bed capacity in each in each of 9 districts. Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) storage tanks have been erected in district level hospitals. Total 2800 oxygen concentrators and 59 PSA plants are set-up in the state through PM CARES. Total 335 PSA plants are set-up by the state government.
