Nitin Patel objects as Congress gives credit of Narmada Yojana to Nehru rather than Sardar Patel

Gandhinagar: Former Gujarat deputy chief minister Nitin Patel said in the state assembly that the vision of Narmada yojana was of Sardar Patel, not of Jawaharlal Nehru. The statement caused a tussle in the state assembly between congress and BJP. Patel said this after Congress MLA gave credit of vision behind Narmada yojana to late first prime minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru.

Former DyCM Nitin Patel further said that Jawaharlal Nehru worked to stop the Narmada yojana from progressing further. The credit of the fulfillment of the complete vision of Narmada yojana goes to only Sardar Patel, and no one else, he added.

He said that Congress devalues Sardar Patel. Jawaharlal Nehru never granted approval for Narmada Yojana, he said and added that PM Modi granted approval for the gate of Narmada and the scheme was fulfilled. The congress MLAs Naushad Solanki and Gyasuddin Shaikh started protesting against Nitin Patel’s statement.

The sergeants rushed to the state assembly. The congress MLAs went towards Nitin Patel’s seat and started shouting slogans seeking apology from him for the statement. Meanwhile, congress MLAs Pratap Dudhat and Paresh Dhanani requested them to sit again at their seats. Former DyCM Nitin Patel had told the sergeants who rushed to the state assembly that he didn’t need their protection as he could handle it. Congress whip Dr C.J. Chawda stated amidst the tussle that Sardar Patel was also in congress for years. So, it was only their vision, he said. DeshGujarat
