Madhavpur: Similar to Sudarshan Pattnaik of Odisha who is a widely known artist preparing sand sculptures on a variety of themes, another sand artist of Gujarat named Nathubhai Garchar of Porbandar is also getting famous for his art of making sand sculptures. Recently during the annual fair organised in Madhavpur near Porbandar, Garchar made a beautiful sculpture dedicated to Shri Madhavraiji (Lord Krishna) and his consort Queen Rukmini. The sculpture became the centre of attraction for the tourists visiting the fair.
Garchar is a retired bank official residing in Zuribaug area of Porbandar. He now devotes his time to design different forms of artistic sand sculptures on the sea coast of Porbandar. Garchar is aware that all his hard work will be washed by the ocean waves, but he still engages in sand sculpting as it gives him immense pleasure. Garchar has participated successfully in various state and national level competitions. He regularly makes sand sculptures on different occasions, aimed at giving a message to the society.
