Ahmedabad: The department of home affairs has suspended two police constables for unlawfully raiding the house of one Gaurang Patel on the pretext that the latter had stored alcohol at his home. The constable duo of the D staff had also misbehaved with Patel’s family members and extorted Rs 4.5 lakhs after giving him the option to either cough up the money or be prepared to get embroiled in false cases.
The family member of Patel had approached the home department, which has taken serious note of the incident and suspended both the constables and lodged an offence against both at the Maninagar police station.
According to available details, police constables Piyush Pravinkumar and Kuldeepsinh had arrived at the residence of Gaurang Patel in Kumbhnath society in Maninagar and informed Patel that they had received a tip off that liquor was being sold unlawfully by Patel.
When the duo couldn’t find anything objectionable in Patel’s car, they barged into his house when Patel’s father, Himanshubhai, asked them if they had a search warrant. Enraged by this, the constable duo then started bullying the family members and bragged that they would use their authority to fix the Patels under false cases if they objected to their carrying out their official duties.
The constable duo then summoned a PCR van and carried away Gaurangbhai, his brother and his father to the police station, where they were made to sit in the D staff room till late night. Afterwards, the duo had demanded a sum of Rs 10 lakh from the Patels but agreed to settle for a sum of Rs 4.5 lakhs. The duo then also made the Patels sign a statement saying that they were not subjected to any harassment and they were being released because the case was found lacking any truth. DeshGujarat
