SMC first local body in country to set up charging points for electric vehicles

Surat: The standing committee of the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has given its approval to set up charging stations for electric vehicles at 25 locations in the diamond city. With this decision, SMC is the first institution to set up charging stations for electric vehicles in the country. The SMC will undertake the same exercise to approve 25 charging stations more before May 31.
The central government has decided to offer a grant for setting up 50 charging stations to those municipal corporations that complete the process by May 31.
The standing committee of SMC has approved a sum of Rs 13.59 crores for the setting up of 25 charging stations and their maintenance for five years. The charging rates for recharging of electric vehicles at these charging stations will be decided in the coming days. DeshGujarat
