Gujarat HC stays civic body’s demolition activities in Jungleshwar for Rajkot Riverfront Project
June 14, 2022
Rajkot: A Public Interest Litigation has been filed in the Gujarat High Court against the municipal corporation’s ambitious Rajkot Riverfront Project.
The civic body had issued a notice to 140 families living in makeshift houses in the Jungleshwar area to vacate the place. A demolition operation was also scheduled for today by the civic body.
However, a bench comprising Justice Arvind Kumar and Justice Ashutosh Shastri of the Gujarat High Court has now issued a stay order with regards to the demolition of the makeshift homes in the Jungleshwar area scheduled for today.
Arguing against the project, advocates Aftab Hussain Ansari and Dev Kella informed the court that the 140 families have been living in the area for a long time now and now they have been served an eviction notice without making any alternative arrangements for them.
The court wondered why no action was taken all these years if the construction of the homes in question was unauthorized while issuing the stay order. The judges also said that the Rajkot Riverfront project should also be executed with the same planning and arrangement as for the Ahmedabad Riverfront project. DeshGujarat.
