Sanitary Pad Vending, Disposal Machines for 500 govt schools in Valsad
February 18, 2023
Valsad: The Valsad district panchayat has initiated a program to set up vending machines for sanitary pads and incinerators for pad disposal in 500 government schools. This project is expected to benefit around 18,000 girls and is scheduled to be completed in the first week of March.
The idea for the project was conceived by Manish Gurwani, DDO of Valsad after he observed a lack of awareness about menstrual hygiene among schoolgirls during visits to government schools in Kaprada and Dharampur talukas. To address this issue, funds from various government grants were allocated for the project and an awareness campaign was conducted before launching it.
The vending machines will be installed in women’s washrooms and will be maintained by a nodal officer, a female teacher from the school. The pads will be supplied regularly to the schools under a government grant from the health department. DeshGujarat
