Surat: A 5-year-old girl named Khushi died in Surat after succumbing to rabies. The girl got infected with rabies from the saliva of a stray dog as it licked her wound after she fell while playing five months ago. Although she didn’t show any symptoms for five months, she suddenly showed rabies symptoms on Sunday and was admitted to SMIMER for treatment. However, she died during the treatment.
She was the only child of Jenishbhai Photographer working in a private company and living at Sant Gnaneshwar society near Adajan Vidhyakunj school with her family. She studied in senior KG in a local school. She was given first aid treatment along with a tetanus injection 5 months ago when she got injured. However, she was not given ARV (Anti Rabies Vaccine).
Her father Jenishbhai said that he had called SMC and requested them to capture the stray dog when Khushi was attacked by it. However, the related official had told him that it was not their responsibility, he added. DeshGujarat
