Surat’s Emission Trading Scheme to be introduced in Ahmedabad, Rajkot and Vadodara
March 01, 2023
Gandhinagar: The state government informed the assembly on Tuesday that the Emission Trading Scheme, which has been implemented in Surat, will soon be introduced in Ahmedabad, Rajkot, and Vadodara districts.
Emissions trading, also known as cap-and-trade, is a market-based approach to control pollution by providing economic incentives for reducing emissions of pollutants. The minister of state for forest and environment, Mukesh Patel, responding to a question from Vejalpur MLA Amit Thakkar, explained that a limit has been set on the amount of pollutants that can be emitted and allocated or sold to firms in the form of emission permits. In Ahmedabad, the scheme will cover 203 units in two phases, with work already underway for the implementation of the first phase in 120 units at Vatva, Narola, and Sanand.
Patel also noted that self-regulation by industries has increased. DeshGujarat
