Fire in NICU ward of private hospital in Shihori leaves 1 infant dead and 2 injured

Banaskantha: One child has died and two children were injured in a fire that broke out in the NICU ward at Honey Children’s Hospital in Shihori, Banaskantha district on Wednesday. The cause of the fire is believed to be a short circuit. Among the three children admitted to the hospital, Lalabhai Raval (7 days old) passed away, while Kuldipsinh (5 days old) and Aarti Solanki (8 days old) suffered severe injuries.

Initially, the two babies were admitted to the Sirohi referral hospital. However, the family members of the children made allegations of negligence against the government referral hospital in Shihori, asserting that the hospital failed to provide adequate treatment, which resulted in the deterioration of the children’s condition. Consequently, the relatives took the infants to the referral hospital in Deesa.

The Shihori police have launched an investigation into the incident by filing a crime report for accidental death. Dr. Pratik Rathod from the referral hospital has been suspended from duty due to alleged negligence, and allegations of misbehaviour have been levelled against him by the relatives of the infant children.
