Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam to be held during April 17 – 26 in Gujarat

Gandhinagar: The central government on Sunday announced the organization of a ‘Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam’ in Gujarat, starting from April 17 to 26, in order to celebrate the connection between people from Saurashtra and Tamil Nadu, spanning over a thousand years.

The event is inspired by the Kashi Sangamam and will include exhibitions featuring textiles and handlooms, artisanal meetings, and business events. The logo, theme song, and registration portal for the event were launched in Chennai on Sunday, according to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office.

Around 12 lakh Saurashtrians reside in Tamil Nadu.

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi also highlighted the bond between Gujarat and Tamil Nadu being celebrated under Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam.

“The #STSangamam celebrates an ancient bond between Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. Centuries ago people from Gujarat made Tamil Nadu their home and embraced the local culture. The Tamil people also welcomed them with open arms. This Sangamam celebrates ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat,” said the PM.

Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya said, “This is an initiative by the Union government that enables a once-in-a-life reunion. This program will offer students and academicians to learn the history of Saurashtrians.”
