CBI inspector accused in bribe case surrenders after fleeing custody earlier

Gandhinagar: A CBI inspector, who is accused in a corruption case, surrendered in a special court on Friday and was remanded in custody for interrogation until April 3.

The accused, Sandeep Kumar, is alleged to have demanded a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from Sukar Anjani, an assistant superintendent of the fisheries department in Diu, and asked him to come to Gandhinagar with an instalment of Rs 1 lakh. After Anjani complained, the CBI laid a trap to catch Kumar red-handed. The defense lawyer opposed the CBI’s request for 14-day custody, arguing that Kumar had already submitted a preliminary inquiry report on Anjani’s disproportionate assets in February.

The Inspector had fled custody on March 28th. DeshGujarat
