CBI suspends Inspector Sandeep Kumar, accused in bribery case

Gandhinagar: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) suspended senior inspector Sandeep Kumar on Wednesday for allegedly accepting bribes while conducting a preliminary inquiry.

Previously, Kumar had fled after a team of CBI officials attempted to catch him accepting a bribe from Sukar Anjani, an assistant superintendent of the fisheries department. However, he later surrendered in court on March 31 and was sent to CBI custody for interrogation.

During a court hearing on Wednesday, the CBI requested a nine-day remand of Sandeep Kumar to investigate the car in which he fled, as well as his phone. They argued that Kumar’s physical presence was necessary because the car belonged to one of his relatives and required further investigation. In response, defence counsel Amit Nair contested that Kumar’s physical presence was not required to examine the car and his phone. Following the arguments, the CBI court ordered Kumar to be sent to judicial custody. DeshGujarat
