Gandhinagar: On the occasion of the 132nd birth anniversary of BR Ambedkar on Friday, thousands of people from the scheduled caste (SC) and scheduled tribe (ST) communities converted to Buddhism from Hinduism, the organizers claimed.
The event was organized by the Swayam Sainik Dal (SSD), an organization based in Rajkot. Attendees were administered ‘Deeksha’ by Baudh bhikshu Pragya Ratna from the Ashoka Buddh Vihar of Porbandar.
During the event, those who converted took 22 vows that Ambedkar himself took when he converted to Buddhism. While some have already submitted applications to legalize their conversion, others are expected to do so soon. DeshGujarat
