Opposition party in AMC questions Rs. 641 crore tender of road resurfacing

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Monday approved a tender of Rs 641 crore for road resurfacing, which is 26.9% higher than the estimated cost.

The AMC justifies the cost increase by citing a rise in raw material prices.

Opposition party Congress councillors raised concerns about this approval, claiming that the tender is intended to repair and resurface 90% of the total road length in the city. Congress suggested that the work should have been divided into multiple tenders and awarded to multiple contractors.

Opposition leader Shehzad Pathan, a Danilimda councillor, alleged a financial scandal in awarding large development works to select contractors. He cited the 2019 road repair tender worth Rs 353 crore that was approved for one contractor with a 34% increase from the original estimated cost. DeshGujarat
