Supreme Court denies bail to 2 Godhra train burning convicts

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday rejected the bail applications of two convicts in the Godhra train burning case, in which 59 people died.

The trial court had given them the death penalty, but the Gujarat High Court had reduced it to life imprisonment. The court refused bail because the two had been found guilty of buying petrol, storing it, and setting fire to the S6 coach.

The Supreme Court will hear the bail requests of other convicts on April 21. The solicitor general representing Gujarat argued that some of the accused had thrown stones at the burning coach to stop passengers from jumping out.

The next proceeding was scheduled for April 28th, however, it was moved to April 21st at the request of Senior Lawyer Sanjay Hegde. He requested that the hearing be moved advance so that those who are granted bail can celebrate Eid with their families on April 22nd. DeshGujarat
