Local Hindus in old town area of Surat protest over breach of Disturbed Areas Act
April 24, 2023
Surat: The locals of the wall city area in Surat agitated at the office of MLA Arvind Rana, alleging poor implementation of the Disturbed Areas Act in their locality.
Over 500 residents of the wall city area gathered at the office of MLA Arvind Rana on Kotsafil main road. They alleged that properties were being sold to Muslims without any control, despite the implementation of the Disturbed Areas Act in ward no. 1-12 of the central zone.
According to the provision of the Disturbed Areas Act, the opinions of the locals are mandatory before giving approval for property sales by the district collector’s office. However, they alleged that the applications for property sales were being approved by taking the opinions of Muslims instead of the locals of Sagrampura and Begampura. They complained about the breach of the Disturbed Areas Act and provided related evidence. They also alleged that applications were being approved at the collector’s office despite the locals being against them in several cases.
MLA Arvind Rana stated that he would discuss the issue with the district collector. DeshGujarat
