May 01, 2023
Vadodara: Gotri Police have nabbed one, Viraj Ashwin Patel, who pretended to be an official from the Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office and the President of GIFT City. He is booked for forgery and rape.
Viraj Shah claimed to be an educated man who had completed his graduation from MSU. However, the police are currently verifying whether his claim is true or not, said a senior police official.
Patel’s scheme was exposed when he got into a fight with a woman at a cinema hall in Gotri on April 28th. The police found that Patel was an imposter and had a fake PAN card. He is also charged with repeatedly raping the woman (a Mumbai resident) who had accompanied him to the theatre. Patel had promised to make her the brand ambassador of GIFT City and had even promised to marry her. According to FIR, the woman alleges that Patel repeatedly raped her since April 8. The police have handed over the fraud case to the Crime Branch.
Patel has a history of fraud and has been booked in three cases of cheating in Ahmedabad, including PASA. He had deceived a model in the Bopal area of Ahmedabad in July 2022 using the same pattern as he did in the present case. DeshGujarat
