May 20, 2023
Surat: Gold smuggling cases involving the use of Aqua Regia paste are being reported at Surat airport.
Aqua Regia is a potent acid formed by combining nitric acid and hydrochloric acid in a ratio of 3:1. The conversion of gold into a paste and vice versa can be accomplished with a mere cost of Rs 200 per 100 grams. The chemical itself costs Rs 500 to 600 and enables the creation of a 200-gram gold paste. This process can be easily carried out in open spaces without the need for specialized machinery or a laboratory. Gold smugglers apply the paste to various body parts to facilitate smuggling by air.
