Vadodara Hospital takes disciplinary action after viral video of stray dog picking rotis

Vadodara: The medical superintendent of SSG hospital in Vadodara has ordered disciplinary action against a Class IV employee after a video went viral showing a stray dog picking up rotis from a container intended for patients.

The incident has caught the attention of the additional chief secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department of the state government, who has sent a notice to the hospital, seeking an explanation. The video, believed to have been recorded on May 12 and shared by a patient on social media, shows a stray dog picking up rotis from a container placed in the passage of a ward in the surgical block during meal distribution to indoor patients.

The medical superintendent, Dr. Ranjan Aiyer, has confirmed that a notice has been served and an explanation is being sought from the outsourcing agency responsible for providing manpower. The agency has been instructed to take disciplinary action against the female employee who is responsible for the negligence that led to the incident.

Dr Aiyer also acknowledged the challenges of stray dogs on the premises and expressed the inability to compel the civic body to take action against these animals. He stated that the hospital has protective covers for all containers, including casseroles used for storing rotis, and questioned why the container was left open and unattended on that particular day.

Furthermore, the superintendent mentioned that the video was brought to his attention by a patient before it became public. DeshGujarat
